NOTE 3: The vocabulary words listed on pages 50-54 of the 2025 Words of the Champions are not necessarily representative of the vocabulary words provided by the Sage Ventura County Spelling Bee in either the Preliminaries or the Final Oral Rounds. These vocabulary words are simply some of the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s favorite words. To study the definitions of words listed in the 2025 Words of the Champions, you will need to refer to Merriam-Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary online.

2025 Words of the Champions 

The 2025 Words of the Champions is the official study resource from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. This resource will help prepare spellers for a 2024 or 2025 classroom, grade-level, school, and the 2025 Sage Ventura County Spelling Bee. All words in this guide may be found in the official Bee dictionary, Merriam-Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary online. 

THREE Places to Find the 2025 Words of the Champions 

1. School Spelling Bee Coordinators at enrolled schools have free access to a downloadable PDF version of Words of the Champions by logging into their Educator Portal on spellingbee.com.
2. Words of the Champions is available in paperback for purchase on Amazon. 
3. Word Club – provided free by Scripps – to help spellers master Words of the Champions, we highly encourage you to download the Word Club app for mobile devices and tablets. Spelling and vocabulary quizzes for all 4,000 words in the Words of the Champions study booklet are available within the app free of charge. To keep your spelling champ motivated, they can use the app to play games, take quizzes and complete activities that feature pronunciations from Dr. Jacques Bailly, the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s official pronouncer. The 2025 version of Scripps’ Word Club app is available for Android in the Google Play Store or for iOS in the App Store.
