Race is always sitting in the classroom.  Systems change when the people in them change.  As schools engage in courageous conversations about how racialization and racial positioning influences thinking, behaviors, and expectations, many educators still lack the resources to start this challenging and personally transformative work.

Authors Victoria E. Romero, Amber N. Warner and Justin Hendrickson  share a few key components educators should consider when beginning the process of rethinking, reviewing, and redesigning supports to mitigate systemic racism in their practice, policies, and procedures.

In this interactive session, participants will be exposed to
• The concepts of racialization and racial positioning
• Ways to  work continuously to grow their awareness of their racial identity to alleviate the impact negative emotional triggers racial encounters can spark and,
• One Pk-8th grade school’s journey to becoming race resilient and modeling ethical, professional, and social-emotional sensitivity
