Leaders today know that teacher voice matters, yet getting honest feedback can be elusive. In this episode, four veteran teachers discuss what is top of mind for them as they educate our students. Ayanna Perry is a wife, mother, author, and math educator. She is an Associate Director at the Knowles Teacher Initiative who contemplates norms, equitable engagement, and inclusion often these days.

Matthew Kay

 

Matthew Kay

Matt Kay teaches kids at Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, PA. He currently teaches 9th and 10th graders English, and has taught elective courses in Drama, Critical Race Theory, and African American Literature. He’s also been an athletic director and is currently both the head varsity basketball coach and an assistant football coach. He is the author of Not Light, But Fire: How to Lead Meaningful Race Conversations in the Classroom (2018). Finally, he’s the executive director of the Philly Slam League, a non-profit that shows Philly-area young people the power of their voices through weekly spoken word competitions.

Christina Nosek is a San Francisco Bay Area based classroom teacher of 20 years and literacy education staff developer in her time away from the classroom. She equally loves teaching children and supporting teachers in developing their classroom reading and writing communities. Her past roles include reading specialist and literacy coach.

Peter DeWitt

 

Peter DeWitt

Peter DeWitt (Ed.D.), a former school principal in Upstate, NY, previously taught elementary school for 11 years. His syndicated blog, Finding Common Ground, is published by Education Week and he is a freelance writer for Vanguard Magazine. Peter has traveled the world, developing content, visiting school sites, influencing policy, and presenting with John Hattie. He has worked with educators at schools, districts, educational service centers, and educational organizations, including the Council of Chief State School Officials. His presentations focus on school leadership, school climate, as well as safeguarding LGBT students and other social justice topics.
