Student questions support visible learning by engaging students in authentic discussion and providing teachers feedback about where students are in their learning. Yet student questions are largely absent from most classrooms today.Jackie Walsh shows you how to create an environment, cultivate mindframes, and intentionally design experiences to develop student capacity as skillful, purposeful questioners. This webinar includes video clips spotlighting students using four question types—self-questions, academic, exploratory, and dialogic—to advance different learning outcomes and increase students’ ownership of their learning.

You'll learn:

  • How 4 types of student questions increase thinking, engagement, and learning
  • How to identify practices and structures you can adapt to your own setting—even in virtual environments
  • A process for developing students’ will and skill in questioning at appropriate points in the learning cycle.
  • The importance of intentionally teaching students mindframes and skills associated with forming and asking their own questions.
