This is an accessible book or the busy practitioner looking for solutions and strategies to use with low level achievers in maths / numeracy. Firstly I like the format. A4 size allows for a better layout and plenty of "white space" in the uncluttered presentation.

The book explains strategies in everyday language and includes plenty of useful ideas for the classroom. The layout use of headings and text boxes makes the content easy to read and easy to locate parts of particular interest. Although the age range states 9 - 16 it is also useful for adult learners. The CD ROM is also a very useful supplement to the book. This book would be useful for teacher training purposes also , especially for the subject specialist numeracy qualifications. Everyone who teaches basic numeracy would find this book useful.

This book is highly practical and the examples provided are user friendly and a good resource for counselling students in my class. The book enable me as a lecturer to recommend practical activities provided in the book and its a good resource for teachers and counsellors in schools.

Really delighted with this book. Such clear and in depth unpicking of aspects of number in very clear sections. Good background on dyscalculia etc too. Slightly annoyed by repeated refs to another text, the 'Dyscalulia Toolkit'.

As a home tutor as well I have some students having difficulty with maths - this has helped and I have recommended to parents so they can understand the difficulties their child is having. I have also recommended it to some of my students who are teaching numeracy.

The CD-ROM enables the user to download templates for a wide range of games and activities, saving time and effort. The maths difficulties are explained briefly at the beginning of each chapter and progression is logical and clearly set out. This is a most useful tool for anyone supporting pupils who have difficulties with mathematics.
