“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”
—Martin Luther King Jr.

By popular request after our Leading For Equity Roundtable in August, we are hosting a follow-up session to go deeper into conversations with our diverse group of district and building leaders from the East, the Midwest, and the West Coast who have been laying equity foundations in their communities. Please join us for small group dialogue with fellow K12 leaders on the difficult and courageous work they are doing in their schools and districts to meet the fierce urgency and the critical challenges of our time in history.

Through breakout group discussion, we will dig deeply into the strategies these leaders have employed and struggles they’ve experienced in their districts. We’ll learn about their approaches to current acute issues of race and racism, and they will share some of their ideas on making school work in a time of a global pandemic, expanding inequities with regard to race and class, and redefined learning spaces.

Based on feedback from our last roundtable, we will be providing more time for small group dialogue where you will have the opportunity to ask specific questions and for folks to share experiences, ideas and best practices.

Discussion Leaders:

Scott Helton, Superintendent, DuPage 88 School District, IL
Waldo Alvarado, Director of Equity and Diversity, Reading School District, PA
David Maxwell, Principal, Valley High School, West Des Moines, IA
Heidi Harris, Assistant Superintendent Student Learning, Auburn School District, WA

Jean Barbanente, Assistant Superintendent, DuPage 88 School District, IL
