Restorative practices are an alternative to punitive approaches to classroom management. These practices humanize the schooling experience and allow individuals who cause harm to make amends.  Restorative practices rely on strong relationships as well as clear systems and procedures to ensure that harm is addressed. The impact is increased equity for BIPOC students as well as a reduction in exclusionary practices such as suspension and expulsion. But as importantly, students change their behavior as they come to understand the impact that it has.  

How do educators and teacher teams develop collective teacher efficacy? In this institute, participants will learn about collective efficacy and how to systematically cultivate it their schools. Participants will be guided through each component of a Collective Efficacy Cycle and will engage in a mini cycle during the institute. Participants will walk away feeling energized and empowered to lead a Collective Efficacy Cycle at their sites.

Accelerating student growth and achievement within the context of post-COVID teaching and learning demands that we leverage our expertise as educators to make decisions each day about what content, ideas, and skills we want our students to know, understand, and be able to do. We make decisions about how much time to spend on specific topics and how frequently to engage learners in that topic. We assess learners’ progress through high-quality assessments and decide when to intervene, on what, and at what level of intensity with each evidence-based activity.

The PLC+ Certification is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and techniques needed to support delivery of PLC+ professional learning in their schools. As a result of PLC+ certification, participants will be prepared to support and lead teams in engaging in collegial inquiry where members share knowledge, observe one another, analyze evidence of student learning, and capitalize and celebrate the collective expertise that exists with the team.

When we create a learning community that works together through a collectivist lens of shared accountability with a focus on equity; we begin to see how educators convene around high expectations for learning across all dimensions of identities. Such learning communities are empowered to explore how their collaborative actions and decisions propel learning forward. Reimagining schooling through a collectivist lens takes effort when we consider that so much about our current system is grounded in principles of individualism and competition.

Credible leaders know where they are going. They have a vision, shared with various members of the school community, that includes plans and steps for getting there. They exude the sense of a positive future, even if they do not establish all the goals and metrics for success.  This session focuses on increasing leader credibility such that ideas become actions. This institute will focus on 5 characteristics that determine a leader's credibility in eyes of those they lead including trust, competence, dynamism, immediacy, and forward-thinking.

Teacher Clarity: Recharging our Purpose for Learning - Teacher clarity is both a method and a mindset, and it has an impressive effect size of 0.84.  The concept is not new; it’s just yet to be implemented in ways that ensure students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how they will know that they have learned.
