Sophie C. Degener

Sophie Degener, EdD is an assistant professor in the reading and language department at National Louis University, where she teaches literacy methods to pre-service teachers as well as courses in beginning reading and reading research. She works with many school districts around the Chicago area on the topics of balanced literacy and differentiated instruction.

Deiro, Judith

Judith A. Deiro

Judy Deiro, Ph.D., has been a full-time faculty member at Western Washington University since Fall, 1997. In her 40+year career, she has worked as a teacher, counselor, and education consultant. Some positions she has occupied include vocational rehabilitation counselor, state women’s prison counselor, chemical dependency counselor, and full-time postsecondary teacher and counselor.


Thomas A. Del Prete

Thomas Del Prete is the inaugural Director of the Adam Institute for Urban Teaching and School Practice at Clark University in Worcester, MA. He is past Director of the Hiatt Center for Urban Education at Clark and a former teacher of history and English at the middle and high school levels. He has worked for twenty-five years in teacher education, school-university partnership, and school reform.

Delale-O'Connor, Lori

Lori Delale-O'Connor

Dr. Lori Delale-O’Connor is an assistant professor of urban education at the University of Pittsburgh. She received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University where she was a certificate fellow in the Multidisciplinary Program in Education Sciences—a pre-doctoral training program funded by the Institute of Education Sciences. Dr. Delale-O'Connor also holds an M.Ed.

DeLandtsheer, John

John J. DeLandtsheer

John DeLandtsheer has served as the GATE Coordinator in the Redlands Unified School District for sixteen years. He has recently retired from his role as principal of Mariposa Elementary but continues to teach at UC Riverside and serve as the GATE Coordinator in Redlands Unified School District. He is a private consultant and trains GATE teachers and others throughout California and the west in differentiated curriculum through his company, JD Seminars.
