She is an advocate of active student engagement, emphasizing a balance of theory and developmentally responsive and academically rigorous practice.

William R. Powell

William Powell has served as an international school educator for the past 30 years in the United States, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Indonesia, and Malaysia. From 1991 to 1999, he served as the chief executive officer of the International School of Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and from 2000 to 2006, he served as headmaster of the International School of Kuala Lumpur. He is the coauthor, with his wife Ochan, of Count Me In!

Power, Michael

Michael P. Power

Michael A. Power has a PhD in Educational Psychology and a master’s degree in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawaii. He is the Director of Instruction and Assessment for the Mercer Island, Washington, school district. He has taught English as a second language in the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, and has, for many years, conducted training throughout the Pacific in instructional strategies for teachers (including cooperative learning).

Having earned degrees at both Barnard College and Teachers College, Columbia University, Judy Powers began her career teaching at the elementary level for 10 years. As both a teacher and a policy board chair of a New York State Teacher Center, Judy conducted professional development courses in the areas of mathematics and classroom management.


Tamie Pratt-Fartro

Tamie Pratt-Fartro is a middle school reading specialist and literacy coach for Stafford County Public Schools. She began her teaching career in Stafford as a fifth-grade teacher and also worked as an elementary reading specialist. Pratt-Fartro earned her master's in education from Virginia Tech and is currently a doctoral candidate and adjunct instructor at George Mason University.
