Peter DeWitt (Ed.D) is a former K-5 teacher (11 years) and principal (8 years). He runs workshops and provides keynotes nationally and internationally focusing on collaborative leadership and fostering inclusive school climates. His work has been adopted at the state level, university level, and he works with numerous school districts and school boards on collaborative leadership around North America and the U.K, and DeWitt works as a school leadership coach in North America.
Additionally, Peter is a Visible Learning Trainer working with John Hattie. He has written with John, as well as presented with him around North America. Peter worked with Jim Knight as an Instructional Coach before his Collaborative Leadership work took off.
His Finding Common Ground blog (Education Week) has been in circulation since 2011. He is the 2013 School Administrators Association of New York State's (SAANYS) Outstanding Educator of the Year, and the 2015 Education Blogger of the Year (Academy of Education Arts & Sciences), and sits on the panel of experts for NBC Universal's Education Nation.
Peter has worked with many state, national, and international organizations including the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), the National Education Association (NEA), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National Association of School Psychologists, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), l’Association des directions et directions adjointes des écoles franco-ontariennes (ADFO), the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario (CPCO), and the Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC), National School Climate Center, GLSEN, PBS, NPR, BAM Radio Network, ABC, and NBC's Education Nation where he sat on a school safety panel with Hoda Kotb and Goldie Hawn.
Jenni Donohoo has been seconded to the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Branch in the Ontario Ministry of Education for the past few years. In this role, she works with system and school leaders in order to support high quality professional learning and improve adolescent literacy. Jenni earned a doctorate in education from the Joint Program at the University of Windsor, Brock and Lakehead in 2010.
John Krownapple specializes in facilitating professional learning and organizational development focused on social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Since 2007, he has led the development and implementation of one of the first and most comprehensive Cultural Proficiency programs in the United States. John continues to administer this program for the Howard County Public School System (Maryland) in his role of coordinator for Cultural Proficiency, where he has guided movement toward inclusion and equity for a variety of teams and groups.
Kara Vandas works with districts and schools around the country, both elementary and secondary, to implement processes and practices that best support student learning. Kara brings experience in these areas from her previous work as the Director of Teacher Effectiveness for the Colorado League of Charter Schools, where she was responsible for partnering with over 30 public charter schools around the state of Colorado in the implementation of Data Teams and Rigorous Curriculum Design.
Dr. Sonja Hollins-Alexander has been in the field of education for 24 years with 18 of those being in educational leadership at the school, district, and higher education levels. During this time, she has served as a school social worker, teacher, assistant principal, principal, coordinator, director of professional learning, and chief of staff in two Metro Atlanta, GA school districts. She continued her profession beyond K-12 as a senior consultant for professional development firms and independently.
Tommy Thompson is principal of New London High School in Connecticut, recognized as one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report in 2014 for its dramatic transformation. In December 2015, the Connecticut State Department of Education officially recognized Tommy for “turning around” NLHS, showing gains on every metric currently used to assess school effectiveness. With nearly 20 years of school experience, Tommy prides himself on bridging the gap between theory and practice, putting into practice what he advocates.
