Participants of the Virtual Instructional Coaching that Accelerates Learning Institute will learn how to build teacher capacity by understanding how to engage teachers in the coaching process, connect with school leadership goals, and increase student learning using a collaborative approach designed to be non-threatening and supportive of classroom teachers.

How do educators and teacher teams develop collective teacher efficacy? In this institute, participants will learn about collective efficacy and how to systematically cultivate it their schools. Participants will be guided through each component of a Collective Efficacy Cycle and will engage in a mini cycle during the institute. Participants will walk away feeling energized and empowered to lead a Collective Efficacy Cycle at their sites.

Restorative practices are an alternative to punitive approaches to classroom management. These practices humanize the schooling experience and allow individuals who cause harm to make amends.  Restorative practices rely on strong relationships as well as clear systems and procedures to ensure that harm is addressed. The impact is increased equity for BIPOC students as well as a reduction in exclusionary practices such as suspension and expulsion. But as importantly, students change their behavior as they come to understand the impact that it has.  

How does feedback work? The overall effect size for feedback is 0.62, but the complexity behind what makes feedback effective requires that we move beyond just provide a score or grade. We often focus only on giving feedback and overlook the receiving of the feedback and how to integrate that feedback into next steps in teaching and learning. This institute will unpack findings from the large body of research on feedback from the perspectives of the giver of the feedback AND the receiver of the feedback. Together, we will learn about the features of effective feedback, ways to foster, nurtu

Teacher Clarity: Recharging our Purpose for Learning - Teacher clarity is both a method and a mindset, and it has an impressive effect size of 0.84.  The concept is not new; it’s just yet to be implemented in ways that ensure students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how they will know that they have learned.
